Checking
An error in a batch repeats fifty times
That is the difference between one file and a batch: the mistake does not stay alone.
Count first
The number of files going in against the number coming out. A difference means one dropped, and usually because of size rather than a fault.
Open a sample
Three files from the start, the middle and the end of the batch. If the error is systematic, the sample shows it.
Check the order
With merging in particular: an alphabetical sort differs from the order in your head, and the result looks fine until the recipient opens it.
What gets fixed after checking
- Renaming the files with numbers and merging again
- Deleting surplus pages from the combined document
- Shrinking the bundle if it exceeds the attachment limit
